Welcome back to our Getting Started with Sharepoint Designer series. These tutorials assume that you have some experience with HTML and CSS, but none with Sharepoint Designer or hosted Sharepoint Services.

Last time, we downloaded Sharepoint Designer and hooked it up to our hosted Sharepoint account. We also created a blank Sharepoint site, ready to customize to our desires. This time, we are going to learn about customizing your blank website and prepare it for content.

First things first: we need to start up Sharepoint Designer if it’s not going already. Navigate to “file” and choose open site. Type in the URL of the site we created last time and click go. You’ll have to log in, so do so, and we will get the site directory structure in the main window. Double-click on the file named “default.aspx”, and it will open in the design window.

SharePoint is a Microsoft proprietary software application. It was developed to facilitate the sharing of information within organizations and over the internet.

SharePoint was designed with two main goals in mind:
• Allow members to easily contribute project information to a central repository for immediate access by others.
• Allow members to efficiently collaborate with other members on project documents, ideas, and status.

SharePoint Benefits:

• Password-protected Web site wherein documents can be shared, ideas exchanged, and projects managed.
• Shared libraries – offers quick and easy access to the same documents.
• Facilitate group file sharing and document collaboration with built-in document versioning and check-in and checkout capabilities.
• Post calendars, schedules and contact information so getting teams to work together is quick and easy.
• Email attachment sizes are no longer a concern, post any document-no matter how large the file.
• Access for all users from any where – Home, office, remote office locations.

One of a most successful moving product from Microsoft is SharePoint; In the current new trend mostly all types of company from small to larger size Industries have SharePoint in their company and started enjoying the great feature and benefits of SharePoint. The SharePoint has brought more and more functionality and made the developers think code free and make a faster production of pages by helping them to choose among various available templates and even more. It also enabled project with SharePoint in their 2010 release. Thus a huge Industry changed and preferred to create their websites using SharePoint. There by the need of SharePoint SEO also emerged in a large quantity to make their SharePoint site to be top on search engines and make themselves more visible.
